Who are we? We are the Davī

We are the Davī. We could call ourselves the Davises but I am struggling with how to spell that and it is such a mouthful. Davi is much better, it uses the plural “i” as in Loci, Octopi, Fungi. Let me start again…

We are the Davī!

Welcome to our site. You are here because you either stumbled upon us through an Internet search or are connected by some degree through family and friends. Whatever the way, we hope you enjoy what you read, learn and watch and if you do, we hope you share with others. I see us sharing our experience through many different ways: journaling, “vlogging”, pictures and educational articles on what we have discovered and learned about traveling the world.

We are so excited to embark on a life changing adventure around the world. We leave the metro area on 9/23/15 to visit the Western Slope of Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and then leave the United States on 10/12/15 from Houston; first stop, Costa Rica.

Here is an introduction to our family and a bit of background:

amy profile pictureI am Amy. I just turned 40 at the end of August. I was messaging with a new friend of mine recently and she said, “I just hit 40 in April and stinkin’ love it!”. That’s right! I love the idea of embracing this next decade. I can’t think of a better way to bring in the 40s. Embracing adventure, having a sense of who I am in this world and living my life as I want to with my family.
In my work life, I am a psychotherapist, or technically Licensed Professional Counselor. I have worked in the field of mental health since 1998. That’s a long time. It is powerful work and I have been humbled by the tragedy my clients have overcome and inspired by their strength. I am an introspective person and find power and groundedness through looking for meaning, understanding my emotions and connection with spirituality. Not religion, per se but connection to the energy we share in spaces with others, with the earth and with the Universe. I’ll try not to get too “Woo woo” or “psychobabbly”. I. Love. To. DANCE. Wherever and whenever. I dance in the grocery store (which Jacob is not such a fan of), in the car, in the living room…. You name it. I love music that has great rhythm. I LOVE drums, especially African drums. I taught Zumba for a few years and fell in love with Latin rhythm and am SO excited to find that music as we travel through Central and South America and Spain. I hope Jacob is ready to dance with me… or at least I know Quinn and with dance with me and Mackenzie says she will pay a drum for me in Africa!

mack profile pictureHi, my name is Mackenzie and I in am 3rd grade. I am 8 years old. I am   excited about seeing Africa because there are lots of animals. Another thing you should know about me is I like the colors purple, green, and blue and I like reading Ramona books. My favorite thing to do is art but I do not like to clean my room.  And that is my introduction.

The End!

quinn profile pictureHi, my name is Quinn. I am five. I am in kindergarten. I am excited to see monkeys swing on vines. I will see them in Costa Rica and Daddy says I will see them in Africa and Asia, too. My favorite colors are pink, purple, blue, orange and yellow. I like to read and play. I do not like to clean my room. I like to do art. I just learned how to ride my bike.

jacob profile pictureI am the original Davī! Most people call me Jacob, Jake or JD…although some refer to me with other choice names.  I am rapidly approaching 40, even more rapidly losing my hair and for the first time in nearly as many years I am not in school; clearly I am having a mid-life crisis.  Rather than get a girlfriend and a Porsche, I decided to double down and take my family on a year long trek across the world.  Ever since I last studied in Regensburg, Germany I have been looking for ways to return to the road and see the world.

As we head on our eastward journey, I will look for opportunities to reinvent my professional self.  Developer? Teacher? Full-time vagabond?  Time…and many miles…may tell.

  2. So you are responsible, Jacob!
Well, I curled up in the fetal position and wept all day after seeing you pull out of our driveway knowing you will be gone so long and be taking many miles away from us. After reading your site, I am very excited for you and to hear of all your many adventures. Love the site, but we still need the Skype and other communique from you. We send a powerful love with you and hope that is enough for your protection is precious to us. Much love in this perfectly wonderful adventure you find yourselves in.

  3. Hello Amy, Jacob, Mackenzie and Quinn! Looks Like I am really late to the party here! Rob just shared the link to your adventures! I remember chatting with you at the wedding in August about your trip. I’m thrilled to see what you have been up to! Amy, so sorry for the issues you’ve been having with your knees…sounds like you are making the best of it and have settled into a good place to take care of things! Looking forward to keeping up on your adventures! So admire you all!

    • So glad you have joined the party! Good to hear from you and thank you for the good energy toward “the knees” they certianly need all the help they can get. I am convinced this is a mere pause in our adventures!
